Black Crow Cawing In The Sky, Sky, Sky

  • 16
Devotions To The Passion Of Patti Lee
Friday, October 12, 2012

In fevered visions of John the Baptist, Saint James the Just and Our Lady of the Seven Sorrows, I knelt before the altar of resonance and atonement to seek my redemption. Humbled in my reverence, I witnessed the much told modern Miracle of the Sun; the luminous Black Crow woman with raven wing who radiated a brilliance far brighter than any star above, and shedding rays of light more clear and intense than a crystal ball filled with the most sparkling and pure of water pierced by the burning rays of the sun.

Adorned in ceremonial garments, the healing celebration commenced as she raised her arms to sing her magnificent hymns of 'three rock chords merged with the power of the word.' And as the peal rose, so too did I, miraculous in my acid dream where I was lifted up through a whirling vortex of majestic sound, fury and passion. The universal truths that flowed from the Black Crow's tongue reverberated in both in my mind and the hollow of my chest, and each was filled with an unparalleled grandeur and force that possessed my body to merge with the sky above and at once I was whole, steadfast, immaculate, free and alive. My cleansed spirit continued to climb even higher still until it became lovingly engulfed by the infinitesimal stars of heavenly creation that shine upon us all and there, cocooned in their warmth, I experienced a calming peace and contentment that melted away the physical realm and then seemed to spread my every molecule across the vast expanse of time and space where I floated --- weightlessly, effortlessly, serene, impervious and pure. And as I lay there, free of suffering, free of earthbound cares, the ancestral dust of the ancients mingled with that of the Living World and I came to know the exquisite beauty of boundlessness. Alone yet connected with the whole of the universe, I slowly opened my eyes to find that I had washed upon the shore of Patti Lee.

Those who had gathered began the slow chant of “Black Crow cawing in the sky, sky, sky. Life is such sad sorrow, tell us why, why, why. Mother Mary, Dolorosa Madonna forgive us our sins, the new world is approaching, let us begin.” And through the swirl of beatific music, poetry and energy, the Black Crow gazed upon the throng and reached down from the altar to place her hand upon my head where she bestowed to me a blessing, the benediction of the ages. Holding me in her eyes, she told me that I was holy, angelic and complete. She assured me that in our righteous pursuits, I along with countless others stood to inherit the Earth, saying that together we breathed a collective breath; the breath of life, unity, morality and strength. The breath of future humanity. And she held divine that it was we the people who possessed the key to unimaginable
change both inward and out, never again to suffer sorrow, never again to fear the harshness of the world. She took my hand in hers and reminded me that through the power of music, knowledge and communion, certain sanctuary was well within reach. Then she softly whispered in my ear that in order for the fever to break, all I needed was simply to believe. Believe in the power of prayer. Believe in the power of unity. Believe in the power of oneness. Simply to believe in the poets, and the artists, and the musicians who lend remarkable beauty to this world of ours. And lastly, most importantly, she told me to believe in myself. To believe in my goodness. To believe in my strengths. To believe in my purpose. Simply to believe. To believe. To believe, or explode.

The first time I ever saw Patti Smith I thought it was to be an evening of her late 70s rock 'n' roll with Lenny Kaye et al. It was, instead, a night of poetry reading, which was every bit as visceral and "rocking" as ripping into "Because the Night" could have been .. . An altering experience in Ann Arbor. Thank you for this post (and the third part, by the way, is linked to some picture instead of the actual third part of recordings).

Hi Miles, is it just me or a fault, when trying to download part 3, it goes to sign in to blogger. The first 2 parts worked fine. Anonymous Ajay

I get a weird message from Blogger when trying to download pt. 3 also - BTW, I love the blog and have downloaded much from here. Your taste is impeccable.

Interesting. I'm having no trouble downloading part 3, but I can't get parts 1 or 2 to download! And I'd love to have me some Patti!

Would love to get this but am unable to access any of the 3 parts. 1 and 2 give an error 349 and 3 asks for a sign in under a different name. Usually no problem downloading the great compilations from this site.

BBBuddha and Steve52...

All 3 volumes and their associated links appear fine on my end as of 6:00 PM PST/October 12.

Please let me know if you continue to encounter issues. Meantime, I don't seem to be experiencing what you've described. Sorry.

Hi Miles - Yeah, I still can't get parts 1 or 2 downloaded. I'm getting the same error for both of them - "Duplicate headers received from server." I'm using Chrome as my browser, so I'll load up IE and try that. This is as of 9:50pm EST.

Miles - I succeeded in finally downloading them by using Internet Explorer. Must be an issue with Google Chrome - wouldn't be the first time.

Thanks for the music, Miles, but most of all thanks for the writing, genius.

I fell in love with a print of the Horses cover someone in St. Paul had hanging on the wall on a bleary, frigid night in 1975 or '76. Then he played the record. Love turned to passion and awe.
Thanks, Miles--another winner.

I finished Just Kids a couple of weeks ago and Patti's been on constant rotation ever since, so once again your timing is impeccable. I hope she's working on her lawsuit against Levi’s.
